My Sust House is an award-winning interactive game exploring what sustainability means and how it relates to our homes. Winner of a BAFTA, the game was developed with Screenmedia for SUST programme at Architecture and Design Scotland. It provides a resource for meaningful and effective learning and teaching opportunities across many areas of the 5-14 curriculum. The game has three parts:
My Sust House Game 1
Environment – explores ways to create a more sustainable environment looking at the location of a house and ways of saving energy, water and waste.
My Sust House Game 2
Building – challenges the player to build a sustainable house on a budget. There are choices to be made on different building materials, insulation, and powering and heating your sustainable house.
My Sust House Game 3
Town – provides a platform to learn about the typical pressures of growth on a small town in Scotland. My Sust Town focuses on ways in which housing, schools, transport, retail and energy could be developed in a more sustainable way. This incorporates five different activities within the town.
The material can be used in many ways, either for individual use or as part of a group activity. As well as providing interesting information, it stimulates discussion, presents problem-solving activities and provides a context for teamwork and decision-making. The games are a resource for meaningful and effective learning and teaching opportunities across many areas of the Curriculum for Excellence.
