Altpatrick Gardens EESSH study

Compliance, Hab-Lab

Renfrewshire Council commissioned John Gilbert Architects to examine Altpatrick Gardens care home in Elderslie and to propose a series of options to reduce energy use, increase renewable energy use and gain Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing (EESSH) standard. Our analysis revealed the need for increasing the insulation of the property and to change the heating system. Our proposals centred on a new combined heat and power (CHP) unit with associated changes to the delivery and control mechanisms throughout the building.

With additional insulation, the building met the EESSH benchmark saving around 13 tonnes of carbon emissions in the process.
