Renfrewshire Council asked us to conduct a technical evaluation of three different internal wall insulation systems recently installed within a hard to treat solid brick tenement property in Auchentorlie.
We installed in-situ monitoring to get ‘real world’ u-values and compare them to the theoretical u-values provided by the manufacturer. We also considered the quality of the detailing and outlined watchpoints for future installations. All three systems performed similarly, although less well than claimed, but the main problems related to installation shortcomings which increased heat loss and mould risk in practice. These results have informed future installation practice and procurement strategies within Renfrewshire Council.
