North Lanarkshire Council had recently completed a £6 million streetscape improvement scheme in Wishaw Town Centre. Because of increasing shop vacancies, the Council prepared a Town Centre Framework and Action Plan and offered businesses and retailers the opportunity of receiving a grant towards shopfront improvement works, with the aim of improving the general quality and appearance of the shops.
On behalf of North Lanarkshire Council, JGA have carried out over 30 shop surveys of shopfronts, responding to businesses that expressed an interest in the scheme. This followed a public open day to generate interest in the scheme.
Each shopkeeper was visited and options and suggestions for improvement work was discussed. Indicative costs were also provided. Each shopkeeper will eventually be submitting their proposals to the Council for approval. JGA are retained by the Council as their technical advisors.
